Makassar, Indonesia — February 3, 2026 — The Department of Industrial Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Hasanuddin, hosted an International Guest Lecture entitled “Lean Management Fundamentals for Sustainable Value Creation and Operational Excellence” on Tuesday, February 3, 2026. The event featured Dr. Hasnida Binti Ab Samat, a renowned expert in Lean Six Sigma and Programme Chairman of Manufacturing Engineering with Management at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).
The lecture brought together lecturers and students from the Department of Industrial Engineering, Universitas Hasanuddin, creating a dynamic platform for academic exchange and discussion on global best practices in lean management and operational excellence across industries.
The event was officially opened by Ir. Kifayah Amar, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN.Eng, who highlighted the importance of international collaboration in strengthening academic and institutional capacity. In addition, the Head of the Department of Industrial Engineering emphasized the strategic value of the engagement, she stated “I hope that this brief meeting we have in this room will generate meaningful outcomes and further strengthen collaboration between Universitas Hasanuddin and Universiti Sains Malaysia, particularly for our students and academic staff, to continuously learn and deepen their understanding of the meaning and importance of Lean Six Sigma.”
During the session, Dr. Hasnida Binti Ab Samat underlined the broad relevance of Lean Six Sigma beyond manufacturing industries, highlighting its critical role in various sectors. She stated “Lean Six Sigma is the key to an organization and industry. It is not limited to manufacturing alone, but is also highly applicable in medical services, service industries, and many other fields where even one second can be extremely valuable.”
Through this international guest lecture, Universitas Hasanuddin reaffirmed its commitment to academic internationalization and the development of globally competitive human resources. The program is expected to strengthen long-term collaboration between Universitas Hasanuddin and Universiti Sains Malaysia, while enhancing participants’ understanding of Lean Management, Lean Six Sigma, and Operational Excellence in a global context.
