USM and Unhas Strengthen Ties Through Summer Program Evaluation and MoA Signing

Malaysia, August 21st 2025 – A significant step forward in international academic collaboration took place as the Department of Industrial Engineering, Universitas Hasanuddin (Unhas) carried out a monitoring and evaluation visit to the School of Mechanical Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). The visit was held as part of the ongoing Summer Program, and it was marked by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two institutions — paving the way for deeper academic cooperation in the future.

The event brought together distinguished academic leaders from both universities. From USM, the Dean and faculty members of the School of Mechanical Engineering extended a warm welcome to the Unhas delegation. Representing Unhas were Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Kifayah Amar, S.T., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN.Eng (Head of the Department of Industrial Engineering), Dr. Eng. Ir. Irwan Setiawan, S.T., M.T., IPM., ASEAN.Eng (Secretary of the Department), Dr. Ir. Saiful, S.T., M.T., IPM., ASEAN.Eng (Head of the Master’s Program in Industrial Engineering), Dr. Ir. Sapta Asmal, S.T., M.T., IPU., ASEAN.Eng (Head of the Manufacturing Systems Laboratory), and Maula Sidi Muhammad, S.T. (staff member of the Department).

The monitoring and evaluation session provided an opportunity to review the achievements and outcomes of the summer program, which has been instrumental in offering students valuable international exposure and cross-cultural learning experiences. Both institutions discussed strategies to enhance the program’s quality and expand its scope, ensuring that it continues to deliver impactful academic and professional benefits.

A highlight of the visit was the MoA signing ceremony, which formalized a renewed commitment between the two institutions to collaborate in education, research, academic mobility, joint seminars, and innovative engineering projects. The agreement symbolizes a shared dedication to strengthening academic partnerships and fostering a culture of collaboration that transcends borders.
